Our new baby, the Bank Holiday, and CHICKENS!

I think it's about time I introduced you to our newest member of the family. Alex had his birthday back in march and "invested" in the newest bit of technology I've nicknamed the Beast. The picture doesn't do it justice. Anyway he's all excited and I thought I'd share this little piece of Panasonic genius with you. I have only one other thing to say; it is 50, yes five-oh inches, and it lives in the games room.

Last Monday was a bank holiday and also Hannah's birthday. So me Han and family and Sarah and John, Susie and Andy and Emily met in a pub called the Pavement Gates between Welshpool and Shrewsbury. It was lovely to see everyone, although there's never ever enough time to catch up properly. You do all the sensible questions, like "how are you?" "how's the job" etc and then it's almost time to go home.

But anyway it was lovely and we all promised not to leave it so long so let's keep fingers crossed. Then when we got back to Hannah's home in wolverhampton there was more fun to be had. Hannah has always wanted chickens. She's never wanted a cat or dog, but chickens yes! And for her birthday Rossa brought her 3 healthy clucking chickens!

Here's the first chicken tentatively sticking it's head out upon arrival. All three were happily scratching about within seconds and are laying eggs already; Hannah's getting one a day!

Goodbye BioCare!

I got made redundant and began the hardcore work search that has defined my last five weeks. I juggled agencies, searched websites, took hundreds of calls and spent enough time on the mobile listening to voicemails to get radioactive poisoning. Blasted phone, I'm surprised I'm not glowing!

Anyway I had interviews for:
BPAS www.bpas.org/ British Pregnancy Advisory Service
Karndean www.karndean.com/ Leading manufacturer of Luxury vinyl flooring
PriceWaterhouseCoopers www.pwc.com/ Global accountancy firm providing: Audit and assurance, Crisis management, Human resources, Performance improvement, Tax Transactions services
Creation Financial Services www.creation-net.com/ financial services and customer programmes, eg loyalty cards
BSIA www.bsia.co.uk/ British Security Industry Association
Mercian Housing Association www.mercian.org.uk/ Mercian Housing Association is a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation providing affordable housing across the West Midlands
Leukaemia CARE www.leukaemiacare.org.uk/ Small national charity providing care and support to all those whose lives are affected by leukaemia, lymphoma and the allied blood disorders

The last two on the list were the nicest interviews I've ever had and both offered me a job on Wednesday and Thursday last week! It was just the hardest decision I've ever made, but in the end I chose Leukaemia CARE, woo hoo! From thursday I am no longer unemployed!!!

Last friday the BioCare gang spent a very enjoyable night in the Green Man pub in Harborne saying, not exactly goodbye but I suppose it was really. I'm hoping to stay in touch with many of them though, made some very special friends with Linda, Chris, Jack, and many more.
Here are the pics from the night!

A secret and stuff

More or less I have been quite busy, so much so I wondered how I used to fit in working! I got made redundant on the Thursday and on the Saturday I'd planned to go wedding dress shopping with mum and Lisa. At first I considered ditching this plan and wallowing. But then I thought that with Alex at work maybe a day on my own wallowing might not be the best way forward! So I met Lisa and mum at Pollyanna's bridal shop in Warwick. It was really lovely to get out of Birmingham, almost like a mini day trip/holiday! We spent a while in the shop I tried on 3 dresses and eventually put down a deposit on one I'd fallen in love with the first time me and mum visited. I'm not letting slip any details, just that it's gorgeous and I felt very special in in!
To celebrate the three of us went for lunch, choosing a 1930's style tea room. It was very quaint and we had cute little sandwiches and pots of tea and cake for afters. It was all very high tea/Enid Blyton. I love finding little treasures like that!
I don't want people thinking that I haven't been trying to find a job though. I've had 4 interviews and been fielding calls and searching the internet like a trooper. I'll keep you updated as soon as I have some good news. It's so hard though because I've come to really appreciate the quality of life I had at BioCare. I was able to get home in 4 minutes if I drove, or 15 if I walked! I could go to the gym and still be home before six if I was on an early shift. And I've come to recognise the importance of this in retaining what's left of my sanity. This search for a job is an awkward balancing act between money and lifestyle. Even while I appreciate I'll not find anything as convenient as BioCare I don't want to lose what I've learned over the last 18 months...
